OAK GROVE, TN (WLAF) – Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Chance Pierce was recently called to Oak Grove Lane in Rocky Top about a vehicle that had driven through a fence.  When Pierce arrived, he found a green Toyota pick-up sitting in the yard of a homeowner with the engine running.  The vehicle appeared to be unoccupied.

As Pierce approached the vehicle, he saw a male in the passenger seat who appeared to be unconscious and laying across the center console of the vehicle, according to a report from the sheriff’s office. After attempting twice to wake the man, later identified as Wesley Adam Hatmaker, the male sat up in the passenger seat, at which  Pierce asked Hatmaker to come out the car.

Hatmaker was asked where the driver of the vehicle was and he replied with “I don’t know sir.  It was her I think.”  Pierce then asked who the female was that he was referencing.  Hatmaker allegedly responded with “me and six other guys.  We were supposed to be going to Oak Ridge.”  At this point, he asked Pierce “where am I?  I was supposed to be taking my hourly nap, and then you guys showed up.”

Pierce noticed Hatmaker was unsteady on his feet, his eyes appeared to be glossy and was unable to answer any questions coherently. The man was asked if he had taken any medication or had consumed any alcoholic beverages and replied “no sir” but then said “I have taken some suboxone and another medicine the military guys in Oak Ridge gave us.  That’s where we were on out way to.”

A check of Hatmaker’s driver’s license and the VIN number were checked which revealed his license was suspended, and the vehicle was registered to him.  Pierce asked again who was driving the truck at the time of the crash and if there were other occupants during or before the time of the crash.  Hatmaker was unable answer, according to the report.

Hatmaker, 34, 710 Glenn Avenue, Rocky Top was charged with public intoxication.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/11/2020-6AM)
