LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Topping last night’s workshop agenda for the City of LaFollette was an official notice being sent to owners of the Red Roof Market to appear before the LaFollette Beer Board tonight about citations issued to them.  The market is located at the corner of Central and Indiana Avenues.Twin Flames has applied for a beer license at 2239 Jacksboro Pike.  LaFollette City Administrator Jimmy Jeffries and LaFollette Police Capt. Steven Wallen both said the restaurant/bar meets all criteria.

Councilwoman Ann Thompson opened a discussion on a code’s issue relating to Code Enforcement Officer Daniel Foster not returning phone calls. Thompson told the council she is getting calls daily and had a list of people needing calls returned. Jeffries was given the list of people needing calls returned so the issue could be addressed.

A new rescue truck is on the horizon for the LaFollette Fire Department. Bids are scheduled to be opened at 10 am today and the council is scheduled to approve the winning bid tonight. The council will discuss putting out bids for bunker gear for the fire department. The medical board foundation funded the purchase of the gear.

Wallen presented a use of force policy revision to council. The policy prohibits the use of choke holds by officers and requires by standing officers to intervene should this occur. The council will vote on the policy tonight.

In the final business of the night, Ordinance 2020-03 amending Chapter 3 section 13-306 of the Municipal Code Rubbish Control stating  the city administrator or his designee shall give notice in writing to the owner, owners agent or occupant of such lot or parcel land requiring the cutting, removal and/or destruction of weeds, grass or brush, vegetation or rubbish within seven days of receipt of notice. The notice will be delivered in person.  If contact cannot be made in person, a letter will be mailed to the last known address of the owner. The notice will be mailed as certified mail. The ordinance will have its final reading tonight.

The first reading of Ordinance 2020-04 amending a Parks and Recreation Ordinance as set forth in Ordinance 2012-04 is scheduled for Tuesday’s meeting. The ordinance makes all City of LaFollette parks non-smoking parks.

A Public Hearing will be held prior to this afternoon’s meeting on Ordinance 2020-03 amending Chapter 3 section 13-306 of the Municipal Code Rubbish Control.
