TOP PHOTO:  Bobby Hicks and his wife Binky (Brenda) paraded on Thursday afternoon to see Binky’s mother, Yvonne Tiller.  Binky last saw her mother in early August through the glass door at the La Follette Health & Rehabilitation Center.  She said, “It’s been really hard not seeing her, because I used to visit everyday and feed her.”

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The anticipation was building as parade participants began assembling in the East La Follette Baptist Church parking lot on Thursday afternoon.  People from different walks of life were coming together to catch a socially distanced glimpse of a family member or friend who resides at the La Follette Health & Rehabilitation Center.  See Charlie Hutson’s photo gallery HERE.

Forty-seven vehicles gathered in the parking lot at ELBC getting ready to parade past friends and loved ones at the La Follette Health & Rehabilitation Center.

The group formed the “Family and Community Parade,” and the parade left from the parking lot and wound its way down North Cumberland Avenue and then East on Prospect Street.  It then climbed up the hill to the La Follette Health & Rehabilitation Center where lots of residents were watching from inside the facility and around 35 residents were in the parking lot as the parade passed by.

Della Kitts drove through the parade to see her mom, Ella Tackett.  Ella, now 97, still knows Della, whether in  person or on the phone or in the parade.  Ella’s been a resident at the La Follette Health & Rehabilitation Center for more than seven years.

La Follette Police Capt. Stephen Wallen and Sgt. Det. Charles Duff led the parade up the hill and through the parking lot at the La Follette Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Sisters Gail Brown (left) and Karen Miller along with Gail’s granddaughter Maggie Herron were thrilled to be a part of Thursday’s La Follette Health & Rehabilitation Center’s “Family and Community Parade.”

There were many happy faces atop Nursing Home Hill on Thursday afternoon.

Sisters Brenda Asher (left) and Darlene Ellis were getting ready to parade past their mother Mildred Asher.

Sisters Tammy Hoskins (behind the wheel) and Pat Ray came out to see their mother, Ruth Claiborne.

Residents at the La Follette Health & Rehabilitation Center waited for their parade to begin.
