JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – By this week, game week, the Campbell Cougars usually have a couple of scrimmages under their belts.  “Last week, we would have started trading film with Cocke County, our first opponent, and this year, you just don’t have that,” said Cougar Head Football Coach Justin Price.Campbell’s preparation is based on what it knows from the 2019 Fighting Cocks, a team that finished 1 & 9 including a season opening 14-0 loss to the Cougars at Jacksboro.  “We’ve watched last year’s film, looked at their personnel and figured out what players they lost,” said Price.

Campbell County’s 2020 football schedule.

Coach Scott Dykes is in his second season at Newport, and Price is quick to note that Dykes will do a great job this season after having a season under his belt.  “He’ll have them prepared to play,” added Price.

“We’ll be prepared for a lot of different looks.  It’ll be one of those games where you’ll probably be making more adjustments than you do all year.  They may have new formations that you have no idea about.  Matt (Price-Campbell’s defensive coordinator) may burn all three time outs in the first quarter,” said the 10th year head coach.

Cocke County finished win-less in its Region 1 games in 2019.  Campbell County’s year wrapped up last season with a 4 & 6 overall record and a 1 & 5 Region 3 mark.  Both teams are classified as 5-A.
