JELLICO, TN (WLAF) – A Jellico Fire truck wrecked on its way to a residential fire on Wednesday night, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Trooper Stephen Barclaysaid the fire unit was heading south on Florence Avenue when it veered off the roadway on the right side with the fire engine then crossing the center line and leaving the road on the left side going over an embankment.  The fire truck continued traveling off the roadway’s left side, hit a chain link fence rolling onto the driver’s side and struck a standing house coming to an uncontrolled final rest in the Perkins’ residence at 289 South Florence Avenue, according to the report.

Firefighter Coleman Shannon was behind the wheel of the 2008 Freightliner F80 on the way to a house fire and told Barclay “that an SUV was heading toward him and avoided collision.”  An ambulance was dispatched, and Shannon came away with no injuries.

The fire was called in just after 7:30 pm Wednesday.  The Jellico Rescue Squad was called out to respond to the fire.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/20/2020-6AM)
