LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – “This is a pretty big project.  We kinda expected that,” said La Follette Public Works Director Casey Boshears.

This sink hole in East La Follette has been in the making for a while.  LUB crews arrived first thing Tuesday morning to assist LPW with a utility pole that sits on the edge of the sink hole.  City of La Follette Administrator Jimmy Jeffries was also on the scene Tuesday morning.

An LPW crew started working Monday morning on a sink hole at the corner of East Ash and South 14th Streets, between the La Follette United Methodist Church and the Old Pathway Gospel Church.

On Monday, crew members dug down about 10 to 12 feet below the street.

This has been a problem spot for a while.  Boshears said, “The flood (June 7, 2019) worsened the sink hole, and it needs more than a band-aid to fix the problem.”

Work begins again soon after daybreak on Tuesday.

There is more digging to do as the project may take several days.  The director thinks that there may be a cave down in there.   (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/18/2020-6AM)
