LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Campbell County Sheriff Robbie K. Goins introduced his office’s newest deputies who graduated from the Walters State Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy earlier this month.

Deputy Chance Pierce (above), among the five, is now a member of the Campbell County Sheriff’s Patrol Division.  Deputy Pierce was given his assignments beginning last Monday and went right to work.

In a release from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, on July 13,  Pierce assisted Sgt. Joe Hopson at Community Health (CHET) in La Follette in response to a possibly intoxicated female attempting to leave with a child in the car.  Upon arrival, deputies allegedly found Alanna Chavis in her running car with a child in the back passenger seat.  Chavis had slurred speech and glassy eyes, officers said.  While addressing deputies, Chavis let her foot off her brake and allowed the car to start rolling backwards.  After stopping the vehicle, Chavis allegedly admitted to deputies that she had been drinking.

After continuing to show signs of intoxication, Chavis agreed to complete a field sobriety test.  Chavis was unable to complete the field sobriety test satisfactorily and was taken into custody.

Additional investigation found that Chavis had her 15- month- old child in the car and had left her five-month old child at a residence.  Inside of the child’s diaper bag, deputies located an empty 200 ml bottle of vodka.  Chavis told the deputies that she had consumed the vodka about an hour prior.

Pierce transported Chavis to the Campbell County Jail on charges of DUI and child abuse and neglect.  Chavis remains in the Campbell County Jail and is due in court on Thursday, July 23.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/21/2020-6AM)
