Flooding is the most common and costly disaster in the United States and can happen anywhere. Homeowner’s insurance policies don’t cover flood damage. If your insurance agent does not sell flood insurance, you can contact the NFIP Referral Call Center at 800-427-4661 to request an agent referral.
FEMA has a guide called Protect Your Home from Flooding that describes some of the smaller, lower cost actions you can take yourself or with minor assistance from others.
Families can prepare for hurricane season by making an emergency plan.
