CLINTON, TN (WLAF) – Campbell County won the first two basketball games at Anderson County on Thursday night and was an eyelash away from a miracle-finish-win in the third game; the boys varsity contest.   The Cougar JVs won a nail biter in the first match-up by a final of 41 to 39 to start off the trio of games.

In the girls contest, the Lady Cougars saw Emily Ellison return after missing Tuesday’s game with a 24-hour bug.  Madison Brady sat on the bench with a brace on her right knee.  Brady is due for an MRI first thing Friday morning.

Alyssa Brown lead the Lady Cougars in scoring with 19 with 14 of those points coming in the second half.  She tallied 30 in Tuesday’s home loss to Halls.  Maryville College commit Ellison put up a dozen.

Macy Monday and Cora Browning poured through seven points a piece.  Megan Asher and Erica Brock scored four each.  Lilli Slover swished through a Travis Thompson trey.  Thursday night’s game marked Raley Snodgrass’s first points of the season.  She only scored two points.  However, it was a good sign after she spent much of the last several months recovering from a knee injury.

The Lady Cougars won 60 to 27 to improve to  13 & 10.  CCHS is 7 & 4 in district games.

In the boys game, Campbell fell behind 32 to 21 midway through the third quarter as Anderson broke open a 21-17 halftime score.  The Cougars put together an impressive 19 to 3 rally to take the lead at 40 to 35.  Anderson clawed back to go ahead 44 to 42 with 1.6 seconds remaining.  Nate Walden in bounded the ball on the sideline in front of the Anderson bench.  Jake Lane caught it in front of the Cougar bench and lofted to ball within an eyelash from going in.  It would have been a make for the ages, but it wasn’t to be.  Anderson left with a 44 to 42 victory.  Campbell is 8 & 18 for the year and 1 and 10 in District 3 games.

Spencer Boshears tallied 14 points followed by Walden’s 11 and Jake Lane’s six.  CCHS received two points each from John Allen Arnold, John Long, Riley Faulkner and Devon Jones.  Seth Ward added one point.
