Jeremy Goins, a nearly 20-year law enforcement veteran, is the new chief of police for Jacksboro.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – It was over almost as fast as it started. On Friday afternoon, the Jacksboro Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted on the new police chief.    Police Chief Danny Chapman gave his letter of resignation/retirement at the November monthly meeting. After the board had accepted his resignation/retirement, Mayor June Forstner made a motion to hire the interim Police Chief Cody Chapman at a rate of $20 per hour. The motion died for lack of a second. Near the end of the meeting Alderman Shayne Green made a motion the town advertise for the chief’s position and the motion carried. The town received six applications for the position, two of the applicants were members of the Jacksboro Police Department.

At the December monthly meeting, a full house was present to see who the next chief would be. But to the audience’s surprise, the topic was not on the agenda to be discussed. Several of the applicants were present at the meeting on that night.

The town held a special called meeting on Friday where Alderman JC Miller made a motion to the board hire Campbell County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jeremy Goins as its new police chief to start immediately at an hourly rate of $20 per hour.  Green seconded the motion. As voting began, Alderman Gene Stevens abstained, Miller voted yes, Mayor June Forstner, no, Green, yes and Alderman Jerri Starrett cast a yes vote.

Goins told WLAF after receiving the news of his employment, “I’m excited about this new endeavor, and I want to thank the Mayor and Board of Aldermen for giving me this opportunity. It is an absolute honor and privilege to be able to wear the same badge of the outstanding Chiefs of Police before me; Danny Chapman, Roy Prim and Bill Rutherford. I want to build off the great legacy that was left before me and continue the esteemed work of this department.”

Goins served with the JPD early in his career and is currently the Chief Deputy for the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  Sheriff Robbie Goins said, “Jeremy’s fulfilling his life long dream, and he told me that he would only leave the sheriff’s office for one job; this one.”

“I’m happy for him and look forward to working with him like we did with Chief (Danny) Chapman.  He’s been a good employee at the sheriff’s department, worked well with everyone and the whole staff thinks a lot of him.  We wish him the best,” said Sheriff Goins.

Goins has worked for the Town of Jacksboro Police Department previously. He began working for the town in 2004, where he stayed for a year, before going to the Sherriff’s Department where he remained for two years before returning to the town for four years where he earned the rank of sergeant. He left again and returned to the Sheriff’s Department where he remained until Friday.  Goins has been in law enforcement since 2002.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 12/30/2019-6AM)
