JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – It’s been a long, long time since the Town of Jacksboro voted for a new chief of police; last century to be exact.     A special called meeting is scheduled for today at 1 pm at the Jacksboro Municipal Building to hire a new chief for the first time in more than 22 years.

At the November regular meeting, veteran lawman and 22+ year Jacksboro Chief of Police Danny Chapman tendered his resignation/retirement.  Moments later at that meeting, Mayor June Forstner made the motion to promote JPD Detective Sgt. Cody Chapman, the son of Chief Danny Chapman, to chief at an hourly rate of $20. The motion died for lack of a second.

Right before the meeting adjourned, the board voted to advertise for the chief’s opening.  Since, six applicants applied ahead of the deadline.  They are Franklin Ayers, Cody Chapman, Aaron Evans, Jeremy Goins, Anthony Lay and Daniel Smith.  One of the six will be the next chief of police for Jacksboro.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 12/27/2019-6AM)

  1. Daniel Smith has withdrew his name. We have decided it is in his best interest to stay with LPD where he has been employed many years. Also he was 1 of the only 3 that was interviewed and while I appreciate my husband being given the opportunity to be interviewed In my personal opinion all 6 applicants should’ve been interviewed. I am all about what’s fair and right and I don’t think that was right nor fair because there were other men that are highly qualified as well. Thank you, Cindy Kitts Smith
