LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Two men were injured when their vehicles hit head-on this morning just before 7:30 am in front of the La Follette Middle School.

According to the preliminary report from Trooper James Raines of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 2008 Ford Escape driven by 37-year old Joey Jones of La Follette was traveling east on East Central Avenue Tuesday morning.  Raines notes that 68-year old Scott Smith of La Follette was headed the other way, west, toward La Follette, on East Central.  The report details that Jones crossed all lanes of the five-lane road striking Smith and his 2006 Nissan Frontier.  Both vehicles ended up in front of LMS at the corner of East Central (Hwy 63) and Foothills Drive in the right lane.

According to another report, both men were trapped in their respective vehicles.  The same report indicated that Jones was airlifted to a Knoxville hospital as both men, the sole occupants of each vehicle, were initially taken to the La Follette Medical Center for treatment.

Raines writes that Jones was not wearing a seatbelt.  However, Smith was wearing a seatbelt.  Charges are pending against Jones for due care, lane use and suspended drivers license.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 12/24/2019-5PM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON)
