NASHVILLE, TN (WLAF) – State Senator Ken Yager (R-Kingston) and State Representative Dennis Powers (R-Jacksboro) announced today that the City of Jellico will receive a $45,000 Infrastructure Planning grant from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD).   The grant is part of the Rural Economic Opportunity (REO) fund designed to better address unique water and sewer needs of rural Tennessee counties, particularly those with financially distressed water systems.

“I am pleased to join Rep. Powers to announce this important grant for Jellico,” said Sen. Yager. “It will result in infrastructure improvement which means a more efficiently run system. Congratulations to Jellico officials for recognizing the need and submitting a professional application.”

Grant funding will help utility districts better serve their customers, develop capital improvement plans and develop better applications for funding to assist with additional upgrades. Funds can be used for water loss studies and the investigation and/or system mapping for water or wastewater systems.

“This important infrastructure grant is great news for the Jellico community,” said Rep. Powers. “As our community continues to expand, it is important that our infrastructure meets the demands of our citizens. This much-deserved funding will help local officials prepare for the future, and I will continue to provide assistance along the way.”
