LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF)- On Saturday Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Courtney Charles responded to a call of a suspicious man. When she arrived at Birch Lane, she found a white truck running with the lights on and the driver door open in the yard of the residence.

Charles spoke with the witness who said a male had jumped out of her son-in-law’s truck and took off running. The witness told the officer that she did not recognize the man.
Charles found the man, later identified as Thaddus L. Webb, in the back of the witness residence, hiding under a tree. When ask why he was hiding he allegedly said “I’ve been sleeping here.” Webb said he was hiding with other people that he had passed on the way up the hill, saying that there were two females and a male hiding and sleeping in the woods along the road, according to a report from the sheriff’s department.
When Charles ran the registration on the vehicle, she found out that the vehicle did not belong to the suspect. At this point, Charles was joined by Deputy Dakota Williams who assisted her in checking the property and surrounding area for the other people. After speaking with two neighbors’ officers learned that the man was the only person seen.
The witness told Charles the owner of the vehicle was out of town for the weekend and no one should be driving the truck. The witness said there was no one with the man.
When Webb was questioned about taking  the vehicle he said “they were running too fast and I couldn’t keep up with them.” He was then ask who they were and he said two men were dragging his girlfriend up the hill against her will, and she was yelling for him to help her. Webb allegedly told police he “just couldn’t keep up with them and decided to get into the truck and try to catch them.” He told Williams he didn’t know who the truck belonged to, but the keys were in the truck so he just drove it.
Webb, 40, 635 Forrest Street, Lewisburg is charged with auto burglary and theft of property $2,500-$9,999.  He remains housed in the Campbell County Jail this morning on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court at 9 am.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 11/7/19 6AM)
