LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Ordinances and resolutions took center stage at last night’s City of La Follette regular monthly meeting.

Resolution 2019-17 was approved allowing the city to participate in the Property Conservation Match Grant Program. Under suspended rules, Resolution 2019-19 allowing the city to apply for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Imminent Threat funds for the purpose of performing eligible community development activities; Resolution 2019-20 for engineering services with the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Imminent Threat Program; Resolution 2019-21 for administrative services of the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Imminent Threat Program were approved.

Two resolutions had first readings; Resolution 2019-06 to provide the use of any all-terrain vehicles was amended to include all of Beech Street and Old Jacksboro Pike. Resolution 2019-18 requesting Sen. Ken Yager to include additional roads to the ATV/utility vehicle permissive roadway use. The resolution extending the ATV Route on State Route 9, also known as Highway 25W, beginning at the stop light at Woodson’s Mall and traveling east along the state right of way to the intersection of west end and Old Jacksboro Pike, starting at the east end of Old Jacksboro Pike and traveling east to the intersection of W. Beech Street.

The council approved a bid of $151,705 for the Downtown Revitalization project to Design and Construction. The Safe Routes to School project had a bid opening last week  Low bid was awarded to Twin K.

Aaron Adkins was promoted to a full- time level II patrol officer at a salary of $30,437.13 effective Nov. 9.

City Administrator Jimmy Jeffries told council he received a call from the animal shelter, and they will be closed for two weeks for remodeling.  The shelter will only be accepting vicious animals during this time. A Veteran’s Day tree lighting will be held on Monday at 6 pm at the Fleet Building. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED- 11/6/19 6AM)
