LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call on July 18 on Bill Brown Lane in LaFollette where it was alleged there was a domestic disturbance.

When Campbell County Deputy Nathaniel Bostic arrived and spoke with a witness, he was told that a woman and a man later identified as David Ray Gross had been in front of the home involved in a verbal altercation. Gross then became physical with the woman and the witness said they could hear him smacking her. He was allegedly yelling at her to get back inside the home and she was refusing to do so. According to the witness, Gross smacked the woman again and told her to go back inside the home. She refused again, and he allegedly grabbed her and drug her inside the home. Loud screaming and thumps were heard coming from inside the residence by the witness, according to the report from the Sheriff’s Department.

Bostic went to the home and walked onto the front porch and could hear a male voice inside. At this point, Campbell County Corporal Jeff Allen had arrived at the home. Bostic knocked on the door and announced the presence of law enforcement and could no longer hear yelling inside the home. The officers then noticed blood outside the home. Allen opened the front door and Bostic again announced the presence of law enforcement. They announced their presence several more times and heard a voice coming from the rear of the home. They entered the home and finally made contact with Gross and the victim in the back bedroom of the home. The victim was laying in the bed with a sheet covering her head. When Allen pulled the sheet back he discovered the woman had two black eyes.

At this point, Gross and the victim were separated, allowing Bostic to speak with the woman about her black eyes. She allegedly told Bostic that the black eyes were from assault on July 13. Then she told Bostic, they had been in a verbal altercation about him wanting her to call and get him a ride to Pinecrest to see someone. She said she refused, and he became angry and struck her inside the home. She continued that she walked out of the home, and he followed her continuing to yell. According to the report, Gross then became physical and struck her again.  He then allegedly grabbed her and pulled her back into the home. She told Bostic that she could hear them knocking at the door, but Gross would not let her answer the door. She also said that during this time he broke her phone.

The woman had physical injuries to her face; both her left and right eye with bruising on her cheeks. She also had bruising above her eyebrows on both sides of her face. Bostic noticed that she had dried blood inside her nose, bruising on her right forearm and above her lip.
