JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Since 2014, the Campbell County Clerk’s office has received daily requests from people wanting to renew handgun carry permits but were unable to do so.

“We contacted the state several times trying to get approval for this service, but we were told no. Eventually, we found out that it would require a legislative act for this service to be provided,” said Maria Partin. Once we found this out, we contacted State Representative Dennis Powers who helped to get legislation passed for the service.

Last Monday, the clerk’s office began processing renewals.  Through the first week, 17 renewals had been processed. “This is something we worked hard to get for the people.  We didn’t want people driving to Oak Ridge just to renew their handgun permit,” Partin concluded.
