CHERRY BOTTOM, TN  (WLAF) – On Saturday, a single vehicle accident led to an arrest.

Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy John Minor was dispatched to Hwy 116, near Cherry Bottom Road, for a vehicle accident with injuries. When Minor arrived, he found a vehicle on its side with a man who was later identified as Darren Tyler Koziel crawling out of it. Bystanders allegedly told Minor that the man had gotten out of the vehicle but returned to it before he arrived to retrieve gum, according to a report from the sheriff’s department. Minor noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from Koziel as well as a large cut over his right eye.  According to the report, the vehicle left the roadway to the right, hit the ditch and overturned. Inside the vehicle and around the scene, several Smirnoff bottles were found along with a pistol.

Minor began medical treatment until EMS arrived and transported Koziel to the LaFollette Medical Center E.R. Minor spoke with Koziel at the hospital and asked how much he had drank. He allegedly said two large Smirnoff’s.  He then asked him on a scale of 1-10 how impaired he was, and Koziel allegedly said he was a seven out ten. At this point, he allegedly said that he was too impaired to be driving and should not have been driving.

Koziel, 24, 135 Rolling Acres Lane, Clinton is charged with driving under influence (DUI), drivers to exercise due care, possession of fire arm while DUI.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/30/2019-6AM)
