“Until we saw a copy of an old La Follette Press, we all thought the 100th year for Woodson’s was next year,” said Rob Woodson on Thursday morning.     Woodson’s was hosting a large group for the March Campbell County Chamber of Commerce Coffee at its corporate offices at Woodson Mall.  The theme for the Coffee was the kick-off of the 100 years in business celebration for Woodson’s.

The morning marked the start of the countdown to June 8.  That’s the day the celebration will culminate at Woodson Mall.

The stories flowed on Thursday from former Woodson bag boys Kenny Baird and Scotty Kitts.  Rob Woodson shared a story of driving Kitts to the Cove Lake Park Campground on a Saturday morning to hand out store coupons to all the campers.  Rob laughed when he said he would have trouble locating the high schooler when he returned to pick him up.  He’d usually find Scotty eating breakfast with a camper.  WLAF will be sharing more of these stories each week on the way to the late spring celebration.

Chamber Director Christie Elkins (L) and Woodson Mall Manager Becky Aiken (R) are among the many who celebrated Woodson’s on Thursday.

In the meantime, beginning Monday, there will be weekly Woodson trivia questions asked over WLAF radio, television and 1450wlaf.com.  Answers will be taken live during the WLAF Trading Post on Fridays from 8 am until 9 am.  Each week’s winner wins a prize from a Woodson Mall merchant, a limited edition Woodson koozie and a Woodson’s key ring/bottle opener.

Rob Woodson is compiling a list of all the people who worked at Woodson’s over the past 100 years.  But he needs your help.  If you worked at Woodson’s, please call 423.562.1234 and make sure your name is on the list.

There’ll be plenty of fun and surprises at the 100 year celebration.  Honoring and remembering past employees at the Saturday, June 8 event are just some of what will take place.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/22/2019-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S ANN RUTHERFORD)
