The Campbell County Cougars went 1 & 1 on its Thursday night trip to Kentucky.

The Lady Cougars jumped on top 12-0 to start the game last night at Lawson Gym just north of Williamsburg at Whitley High.  The Lady Colonels came back to make a game of it  just before halftime carving into the CCHS lead making it a five-point contest.  Campbell began the second-half with a man-to-man defense and shutdown Whitley enroute to a 68 to 44 win.  The Lady Colonels never led.

Skylar Boshears was tops for Campbell with 22-points while Haley Comer added 17.  Nine of the 10 Lady Cougars that suited up scored.  Madison Brady, saddled with early fouls, finished with nine-points, Blair Medley had five and Myra Sexton and Macy Monday scored four each.  Emily Ellison chipped in three, Lexy Richardson and Raley Snodgrass had two points apiece.

Campbell received a strong performance from senior big man Bryce Duncan and an impressive long ball night from Nate Walden.  Duncan finished with a dozen points and Walden, who suffered an injury to his shooting hand (right) late in the game, led CCHS with 19.  Walden rifled-in five Travis Thompson treys.

Whitley led by a dozen early in the second-quarter, but the Cougars made a nice comeback to tie the game late in the third quarter at 34.  It capped a 19-9 Campbell run.  The Colonels responded with 13-straight points to take their largest lead.  Whitley salted the game away by hitting its free throws to claim the 63-54 victory.  Unofficially, the Colonels  were 13 of 17 from the line while Campbell hit its three free throws.

The Lady Cougars are 8 & 0 while the Cougars search for their first win.  It’s a district match-up tonight as the Mavericks host Campbell at Anderson.
