Countdown to the season opener begins this afternoon when the Cougars and Lady Cougars officially start basketball practice for the 2018-2019 campaign.

Oneida visits John Brown Gym on Tuesday, November 13, for the first game of the year.

Hopes are  high.  The Cougars have a new coach, former Cougar Darrell Cox.  The Lady Cougars have their starting five back from a season ago.

Fifth year Lady Cougar Head Coach Brad Honeycutt tells WLAF Sports, “This is going to be a lot of fun.  This group has been responsible for 67 wins in their first three high school seasons, and that has to rank them up there with some of the other talented classes to come through CCHS over the years.”

The fact that the 2018-2019 seniors are the first players to have played all four of their high school years for Honeycutt is one of the reasons that makes this a special year in particular for the coaches.  Honeycutt recalls being told in April of 2014 by several people in his first two days on the job of how talented the current 8th grade players were and how hard it is to believe they are now seniors.

Honeycutt has scheduled the best teams he could possibly schedule this season.  He describes it as, “Our most challenging regular season yet, but we’re confident they will step up to the challenge.”
