“It sure looks a lot better from up in the stands than it does here on the field,” said Campbell Cougar Head Football Coach Justin Price.  The 8th year head coach laughed as he said that while he was marking off Pat Kerr Field on Wednesday afternoon.  It’s a home game ritual for Price and his staff to paint the stripes, hash marks and numbers.

Coach Price points out that former Assistant Coach Josh James, now a member of the board of education, was the best at painting the field.

He says, “Its best that only one or two of us paint the stripes.  After that, we can all team up on the rest of painting the field.”  Price and Campbell County are one of the few programs that lines off its football field.  These days region opponents either have a turf field or play on a field maintained by a municipality.

Price actually enjoys it.  He adds that Assistant Coach Troy Arnold created a new frame for painting the hash marks making for a little easier task.

Starting each stripe with a full can of paint keeps from having to switch mid-stripe which generally shows up whiter if you have to get another can of paint on the same stripe.

The father of the coach, Jeff Price, mows the field on Saturdays.  Then he comes back  and mows and sweeps it on Wednesdays before the painting begins.

In a perfect world, it would be ideal to have the field painted on Thursday  or even Friday morning.  Price likes doing it on Wednesdays so it will be ready for his team’s walk-through on Friday.
