Thursday was a big sports day around Campbell County.

Middle school football swept with opening night wins.  Jacksboro blitzed Eagleton 38 to 8.  La Follette knocked down Cumberland Gap 38 to 16.

CCHS Volleyball fought back from two sets down on the road at Halls to claim its second win of the season in as many outings.  Lady Cougar Head Coach Renee Wormsley tells WLAF, “We had to fight back tonight.  We were down for two sets and came back to win the last three.”  A team goal, the coach adds, came about a few years back of earning respect one game at a time and being proud of the VB program, themselves and the community.  Wormsley thinks that’s exactly what her team is doing this season.

It was a rough night for Lady Cougar Soccer.  CCHS took an early 1-0 lead, but the good start faded.  Coach Bryan Horton says, “We really played well for the first 15-25 minutes, and then we lost our edge.”  Powell took a 4-1 lead at the half and won 7-1 at CCHS.  The coach points out that the Lady Cougars will continue to work on conditioning using games like Thursday night to improve.

The Wells twins, Carter and Katie, led CCHS Golf to wins Thursday afternoon.  Campbell defeated Clinton, Union County, and Gatlinburg Pittman.  Katie shot a 41 while Carter put up a 38.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/17/2018-6AM)
