Dexter Bean and four other members of the Speedwell Fire Department just came back from McClain’s Rock high above Speedwell.  The five left out on a search and rescue mission at 5:30 am this morning.Bean explains to WLAF that a young woman, in her 30s, Lea Phillips of Rocky Top, is the person who called E-911 for help.  She told Bean that she’d been bitten by a snake, and that she’d been on the mountain top since midnight waiting to see this morning’s sunrise from the top of the mountain.

“It’s a pretty rough ride up to where she was,” said Bean who brought her off the mountain in his side-by-side ATV.  She was loaded into an ambulance at the bottom of the ridge and taken to a local hospital.

Bean noted that Phillips was by herself saying she drove up to the top of the mountain from the Duff side in a Four Runner.

Rescuers finished up their mission about 8 am this morning. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/18/2018-8:30AM)
