There is no more grueling athletic competition in the country than the decathlon.  Over a two-day period, the best track athletes in the state compete in a series of events that range the entire track and field spectrum.   This year Campbell County junior Christian Shouse put on an outstanding performance on his way to becoming the state runner up in the event held on the campus of Austin Peay University at Clarksville.  He did so well that after day one he was actually the leading competitor.
Shouse placed 1st in a quartet of the events.  He was the top athlete in the discus , the shot put, the 100m dash and the 400m dash.
He had a throw of 133′-11″ in the discus. A throw of 43′-5″ in the shot put. A time of 11.22 in the 100m. A time of 49.92 in the 400m.
He was second in the high jump with a leap of 6’4″.   In the long jump, he was 4th with a distance of 21′ 2″.  The triple jump saw him take 5th with a distance of 40′ 4.25″.   He was also 5th in pole vault with a 10′ vault.  He finished 6th in the 110m hurdles running a time of 16.90. the 1500m distance run saw him place 7th with a time of 5:22.00.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/23/2018-6AM-STORY BY WLAF’S PAT PEBLEY)
