New mayor and council hold first City of La Follette regular monthly council meeting
LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Yesterday afternoon, at the LaFollette City Council meeting the approval to advertise for a city judge was on the agenda. For related story CLICK HERE. Current LaFollette City Judge Kathy Parrott spoke to the mayor and council about her proposed replacement.
Anything she has done is to protect the integrity of the court, she said. Parrott talked for several minutes about how she addressed matters in her court and concluded with “I would appreciate if you would keep me.” Councilmember Stephanie Solomon made a motion, with Councilmember Mark Hoskins making a second, to table the issue until the Dec. 30 workshop. Hoskins would like more time to investigate the situation, he said. All members of the council voted to table the issue.
Also on the agenda was the appointment of a vice mayor/beer board chairman. Hoskins nominated Councilmember Wayne Kitts to fill the position. All members of the council voted in favor of Kitts.
Acceptance of a bid for the LPRF Grant for Parks and Recreation Liberty Park improvement from Rogers group was approved. Two bids were received for the project, Rogers Group bid $186,032 and Skilled Services bid $230,600.
Jene Hopkins was present at the workshop last week to discuss the Campbell County Girl Scouts Service Project that earned them a silver award. The sixth and eighth grade girls in the troop completed a project creating a proposal for crosswalks and lights at LaFollette Middle School, Campbell County High School and LaFollette Middle School. The council approved a letter of support for Campbell County Girl Scouts.
Resolution 2024-21 authorizing the City of LaFollette to participate in the PEP Risk Management Pool (Cyber Security) Loss Control Matching Grant Program was approved.
Two ordinances were approved, Ordinance 2024-10 amending the zoning ordinance pertaining to swimming pools. The ordinance adds definitions of a pool alarm and a swimming pool. Ordinance 2024-11 amends the zoning ordinance to state no building shall be erected on a lot which does not abut at least one public street, unless an easement at least 30 feet in width to a street is provided. For any dwelling abutting a public or private street an entrance to the dwelling must face the street.
The promotion of Tanner Lay to a full-time sanitation worker effective Dec. 14 was approved. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-12/04/2024-6AM)
