Chambers, Donahue, Jones and Lawson begin new terms

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- Last night the Town of Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen swore in a new mayor and three aldermen. The new mayor is David Chambers. The aldermen sworn in were Eric Jones, Lloyd Lawson and Pat Donahue. Chambers said, “it’s good to be back after 20 years”.
Kevin Ward spoke to the board about a building on Main Street that is falling down and posing a hazard to his property. Lisa Crumpley of Codes Enforcement summoned the owner Joe Arnold to court about the situation, but he failed to attend. Attorney Reid Troutman advised that the case would need to go to a higher court. Crumpley recommended that the town needs to have a demolition order drafted and signed by the chancery judge. Another concern was raised about people staying in the basement of the building which is unsafe.

Ordinance No: 2024-12 amending the zoning map by changing zoning for property on Dogwood Rd at Lakeview Rd from R-1 to C-2 had a second reading.
Ordinance No: 2024-13 Amending the CDBG Annual Operating Budget for FY beginning 7-01-24 to 6-30-25 in the amount of $11,529.70 had a first reading.
The board discussed Ordinance No: 2024-14 an ordinance to amend ordinance 2023-07 the text of code of ordinance title 17 chapter 1, refuse and trash disposal.
With the holiday approaching the board discussed the annual Christmas Light Contest. Anyone wishing to participate in the contest must contact city hall by noon on Dec. 20. First prize will be $300, second prize will be $200 and third prize will be $100. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-11/13/2024-6AM)
