Four candidates run for mayor, six candidates seek a council seat in La Follette’s November election

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- It’s sort of a throwback feel to the 1960s and 1970s when the top five vote getters in a La Follette election would serve on council and as mayor. The person with the most votes would be mayor and the other four winners would serve as council members. There would generally be anywhere from eight to a dozen vying for those five spots.

The La Follette election field of candidates is becoming a bit crowded with now four candidates vying for mayor and six candidates going after two council seats. Election day is Tue., Nov. 5.

The most recent qualifiers at La Follette are Jimmy Marlow for council and Scotty Kitts for mayor. Marlow joins Mike Evans and Wayne Kitts as the only others to submit petitions for council with Scotty Kitts being the only for mayor so far.

Monday, June 17, was the first day to pick up a petition to run in the November election, and 15 petitions have been requested so far. The deadline to qualify is Thu., Aug. 15, at noon.
