FCCA has successful launch of its Homeward Bound virtual pet fostering program

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Friends of Campbell County, TN Animals (FCCA) recently launched a new program to increase the enrichment of the homeless shelter dogs of Campbell County. Homeward Bound is a foster program that provides community volunteers the opportunity to interact with dogs remotely and in-person with the assistance of the FCCA staff at the Campbell County animal shelter.
Volunteer fosters participating in Homeward Bound take the dog home and/or to a local dog friendly spot or just simply interact with the dog at the shelter. This enriched interaction with the dogs allows FCCA to better communicate to potential adopters the various behaviors of each individual dog to better align potential adopters with the right dog for them. It is also very beneficial to the dog by providing it a brief escape from the hectic animal shelter environment. It provides a safe environment for dogs to just be themselves; a fun-loving, playful dog. It is also helpful for the socialization of animals as they prepare for their new forever home.

“The initial results of our Homeward Bound program have exceeded my expectations,†said Patricia Siwinski, Shelter Director of FCCA. This new Homeward Bound dog enrichment program is very helpful in helping find homes for the dogs that have spent longer periods of time in the shelter before getting adopted, according to Siwinski. This program will help get dogs adopted faster. Thus, this is beneficial for the dogs, and it benefits the shelter as it increases intake capabilities by opening up kennel space quicker. “We are routinely facing overcapacity issues at the Campbell County shelter that we operate for our community. We are very grateful for the volunteers that our committing their time to help find homes for our homeless animals,” said Siwinski.
Please check out the Campbell County TN Animal Center Facebook page to see the Homeward Bound stories. If anyone is interested in adopting one of the Homeward Bound dogs or other dogs or cats in the shelter, please contact the animal center. All the adoptable pets can be viewed on Petfinder and Adoption applications can be completed online via the website.
FCCA is a nonprofit organization that manages and oversees the daily operations of the Campbell County Animal Shelter for Campbell County. Its purpose is to preserve animal life through humane sheltering and finding homes for the thousands of homeless animals that enter the shelter every year. Since 2015, the shelter has cared for more than 24,000 animals, spay/neutered more than 4,100 animals, and provided low-cost vaccines to 4,700 plus animals in Campbell County. These accomplishments were achieved through the extensive new programs launched by FCCA, according to Siwinski.
“We are pleased that these efforts have resulted in increasing the live-release rate for the animals of Campbell, County to 87% over the last three years. For more information about Friends of Campbell County, TN Animals, visit our website,” said Siwinski.
