Retired U-S Army Colonel Daphany Prewitt was the special speaker for this service. Kevin Walden, retired from the United States Air Force was master of ceremonies.

JELLICO, TN (WLAF) – A Memorial Day service at Veterans Park at Downtown Jellico was conducted on Saturday afternoon. “We must remember those who gave their lives for our freedom,” said Kevin Walden, retired from the United States Air Force. Retired U-S Army Colonel Daphany Prewitt was the special speaker for this service. In addition, the Jellico Honor Guard provided full military honors along with Taps and 13 folds of the U-S Flag during the ceremony.

Here is an outline of Colonel Prewitt’s distinguished career.

Retired U-S Army Colonel Daphany Prewitt was born to an Army NCO in Munich, Germany, married an Army NCO, and enlisted in the Army in 1989, where she became an NCO. From there, she was commissioned as an Engineer Officer in 1994.

Daphany served, among other assignments, in Ft Lewis, WA; San Antonio, TX; College Station, TX; Santa Fe, NM, Camp Blanding, FL; St Louis, MO; Pittsburgh, PA. COL (Ret) Prewitt managed the Army construction budget for the Army Pacific Command. She commanded a Battalion whose reach was all Reenlistment and Retention NCOs in Texas. Her final 7 years were at the Pentagon where she managed, organized, staffed, and operationalized the Army-wide Directorate of Audit and Financial Systems.

COL (Ret) Prewitt served in combat in both Iraq and Afghanistan and deployed to South Korea for exercise operations with the South Korean Army. She also spent time in Kuwait as part of her combat deployment.

COL (Ret) Prewitt holds a Bachelors from University of the Cumberlands, Masters from Chapman University and the US Army War College, and a Doctorate in International Accounting. She completed postdoctoral work at the National Defense University, University of South Carolina, and Dartmouth University.

COL (Ret) Prewitt’s awards include the Combat Action Badge, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (8 Awards), the Army Engineer de Fleury Award (Bronze).
