‘Thirty seven students inducted; miraculous for a school this size’- TCAT President Debbie Petree

TCAT’s second-year National Technical Honor Society honoree is Joshua Durham with TCAT President Debbie Petree.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – On Thursday evening, the Tennessee College of Applied Technology – Jacksboro recognized its National Technical Honor Society students.

“It’s not easy to get to tonight, and I don’t say this very often; this is a display of academic and leadership excellence,” said TCAT President Debbie Petree.

Thirty- seven TCAT Jacksboro students were inducted into the NTHS Thursday evening during a ceremony at the La Follette Methodist Church. One student, Joshua Durham, was recognized as a second-year honor student having maintained the rigorous standards set by the organization and college’s requirements.

A crowd of more than hundred attended Thursday’s celebration.

The purpose of the National Technical Honor Society is to promote student excellence and leadership in career and technical education and to recognize educational achievements.

“You have broken from the pack and are working toward a career, not just a job. Becoming a member of the honor society is really a big deal. I am very proud of you and I congratulate you,” said Chandy Rogers, NTHS advisor for TCAT.

La Follette Boy Scout Troop #310 presented the Colors.

Nancy Thompson, a retired 30-year career healthcare administrator, addressed the students.

The keynote speaker, Nancy Thompson with The Doorway Gourmet and a retired health are administrator, congratulated the students and provided guidance on pursuing their goals.

TCAT faculty and staff members including President Petree, Chandy Rogers, Camilla Gambrel, Barbara Wallace, Elizabeth Brooks, Tiffany Medley, Sean Kelly and others assisted in the induction ceremony.

Hollie Helton has a career in retail, hospitality and tourism. However, she enrolled with her daughter (correction- her son, Elijah Helton) to go through TCAT with her. She was inducted into the honor society Thursday night. Hollie spoke on goal and purpose at the ceremony.

The following students were honored: Samuel Albertini, Autumn Brewster, Jacob Bullock, Eelyjah Cogan, William Cowan, Ethan Fuller, Savannah Gresham, Hollie Helton, Jade Johnston, Nicholas Justin, Kole Kennedy, Christopher Lindsay, Carrie Matchett, Richard Miles, Paul Moore, Kaylee Phillips, Devyn Plagemann, Taylor Rogers, Colton Ross, Lillyana Santana, Olivia Stooksbury, Ashton Swaggerty, Emily Swaggerty, William Taylor, Megan Thomas, Britney Wallace, Cheyenne Welch, Sarah Ashlynn Wilson, Kirsten Wood and Dylan Wylie. TCAT’s second-year honoree is Joshua Durham.
