JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Monday’s Campbell County Commission meeting has been postponed until Thursday at 6 pm. This announcement was made on Monday at 6 pm by County Mayor Jimmy Jeffries (above photo).

“So, unfortunately, we found out today that we had not given proper notice for the meeting under the Open Records Act, it requires that our agenda be posted 48 hours prior to the meeting for the public. Once I was made aware of that, I contacted our attorney, Mr. (Joe) Coker and Mr. Coker reached out to CTAS (Commission Technical Assistance Service) and CTAS agreed, there is in fact a TCA, Tennessee Code Annotated law that says an agenda has to be posted 48 hours prior to a meeting. Anything that would have been done here tonight could have been contested under the Open Records Act, so I think at this point, the commission will hold the meeting Thursday at 6, so we can be in compliance with the Open Records Act, and that was what CTAS got back in touch with Mr. Coker and recommended that we not have this meeting at this time tonight,” Jeffries said.

Several school board members, as well as members of the recently appointed Solid Waste Board, were at the meeting with intention to address the commission. School Board member Brandon Johnson announced loudly as the meeting was breaking up that he would be out in the hall to speak with any commissioners that had questions about the school board budget and why the county was lagging behind on funding for schools.
“Mr. Coker said that I can go out and answer questions, you all just can’t talk to each other, so if you’re curious about education funding and you’re wondering why Campbell County is lagging behind, I will be out in the hall, ” Johnson said, inviting commissioners to discuss the school board’s budget and what he felt was “misinformation” about what the county funds for the school district.
Johnson said he planned to address the commission at the postponed meeting on Thursday night.
Mary Michelle Gillum Goins who was appointed to the Solid Waste Board by the previous commission said she planned to address the commission regarding its resolution to dissolve the recently appointed solid waste board.
