LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) - A 15-month old child was found by police in the back seat of her mom's car after her mother was attempting to drive away possibly intoxicated. 


School Board approves plan to reopen schools on August 5

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) - The Campbell County Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve a reopening plan for all county schools on the scheduled reopening date of August 5. The plan will cover all grades in K-12 and contains provisions for any students with "qualifying criteria" such as underlying physical conditions.  Watch the meeting HERE on demand.  See the full plan HERE.


Crabtree will be tried in assault case; plea not on table

JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF)- The three men charged with assaulting an inmate while he was in custody have their fates intertwined.

When the Eighth Judicial District Criminal Court convened via Zoom on Monday, prosecutors said Justin Crabtree would not be receiving an offer to resolve his case.

Dog Days

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) - When I turned over the calendar page from June to July, I noticed a phrase printed on the square for July 3.  It was 'Dog Days begins.'  Now when I was a youngster, I thought it just meant that it was the hottest part of summer when the dogs laid around in the shade all day.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) - Very hot conditions highlight this week's weather.  Afternoon heat index values are expected to be near or even a bit above 100 degrees at times across portions of the region today through Friday.


Alcohol involved in crash

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) - Alcohol was involved in the crash yesterday that landed a Jacksboro man in jail on several charges by multiple agencies. Police arrested Oscar Byrge, 32, after reports of an intoxicated driver ended in a multiple vehicle crash in LaFollette. Two people sustained minor injuries during the crash. According to the Jacksboro Police report, once arrested, Byrge told officers he had drunk "a pint of liquor."

A Campbell County man's reckless ride ends with a six-car pile-up

Oscar Byrge of Jacksboro is the man police say was driving this van that had been reported driving recklessly.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) - Calls about a reckless driver headed toward Campbell County were coming in to E-911 Dispatch from Anderson County soon after 5:30 pm on Tuesday afternoon.  Officials say a man in a van was roaring up I-75 north, and as soon as he cleared the county line, calls began coming into Campbell County's dispatch center about him.  Reports were that the tan colored van exceeded speeds of 100-miles per hour on the interstate.


COVID-19 case count totals 75 for Campbell County

NASHVILLE, TN (WLAF) - As of Tuesday afternoon, the number of PCR positive tests for COVID-19 during the pandemic according to the Tennessee Department of Health is 84, and that includes 75 cases confirmed and probable (three more than on Monday).  Of the cases, 47 of those patients have recovered while 27 patients  are recovering and one patient has died.  Results through Tuesday from 3,520 COVID-19 tests in Campbell County have come back negative.
