Grant awards announced by Campbell Enhancement Fund

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) - The Advisory Board of the Campbell Enhancement Fund (an affiliate fund of East Tennessee Foundation) is honored to be the recipient of $20,000 to be utilized to assist local nonprofits in various Campbell County communities. The Tennessee Valley Authority announced earlier this spring that it will be providing $2 million in funds to support local initiatives that address hardships created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

It may not look like it, but this man is having the time of his life, and after 20-years on the job, he still loves what he does.  Gary "Bo Bo" Boles is a one man wrecking crew and demolition is his specialty.  The Morgan County native is the construction supervisor handling the demolition of the former Prim Bakery on North Tennessee Avenue and has appeared as if he's a kid in a candy store everyday of the project.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) - Even though what was left of the Prim Bakery building was taken down and hauled away on Thursday, its legacy will live on in the building that will replace it.


TDOE announces $5 million in grants to districts to support students with disabilities

NASHVILLE, TN  (WLAF) —The Tennessee Department of Education today announced an additional $5 million dollars will be available for Tennessee school districts to provide compensatory services and support innovative approaches to the remediation of students with disabilities due to extended COVID-19 related school closures.  


TFWC sets hunting and trapping regulations

NASHVILLE, TN - The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission has established the state’s 2020-21 and 2021-22 hunting and trapping regulations at its May meeting which concluded Friday. The commission and others also honored retiring Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Executive Director Ed Carter who is retiring after 48 years of service, including serving since 2009 in the top leadership position.

NASHVILLE, TN (WLAF) – FEMA is attempting to schedule a remote home inspection for some residents of Bradley and Hamilton counties who reported damage from the April 12-13 tornadoes, but has been unable to reach them.


No change in TSSAA Dead Period

NASHVILLE, TN (WLAF) - The TSSAA Legislative Council held a special called meeting on Thursday, June 4 to discuss the summer Dead Period. While some felt that the Dead Period has been made superfluous due to the COVID-19 pandemic response, the motion to make changes to the 2020 Dead Period failed by a vote of 6-6. The Dead Period is from Monday, June 22 through Sunday, July 5.
