JELLICO, TN (WLAF) – In a release from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office:  At 10am this morning, a call for assistance came in to the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.   This request was for help in apprehending a suspect wanted for attempted murder of a law enforcement officer in the state of Kentucky.  The suspect was believed to be in the Jellico area on the Tennessee side.

Once the validity of the information was confirmed Sheriff Robbie Goins authorized the activation of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) with instruction to secure the location and take the fugitive into custody.  The suspect was located on Thursday afternoon in a motel room in Jellico and was taken into custody without incident.

Sheriff Goins expresses his appreciation to the Kentucky State Police, Whitley County Sheriff Todd Shelley, the Whitley County Sheriff’s Office as well as Jellico City Police Chief Gary Perkins and his department for their cooperation and assistance in this operation.  Sheriff Goins states, “In law enforcement, we all take an attempt on someone’s life very seriously,  but it seems a little more personal when that attempt is on a fellow law enforcement officer.”  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/14/2020-6AM)
