JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) -A second Campbell Countian has been diagnosed with the Coronavirus. In a release from Campbell County Mayor E.L. Morton:

Update from The Campbell County, TN Mayor’s Office, March 20, 2020:

At approximately 10:30 am today The Campbell County Health Department advised my office that a second person in Campbell County has been diagnosed with the Corona virus/COVID-19.  This person is under quarantine and being monitored by Health Department professionals.  The Health Department also advised that this case may post to the state tally by 2 pm today or by 2pm tomorrow.  Advisories remain to:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds or more
  • Use hand sanitizer of 60% alcohol or more if soap and water are not available
  • Stay at home if you are sick or caring for the sick
  • Cover your cough and sneezes with your elbow or tissue and dispose of the tissue
  • Keep a distance of six feet from others
  • Buy normal volumes of groceries and home making supplies
  • Refrain from gatherings of ten or more people

The Campbell County Courthouse remains open.  We will be modifying entry on Monday to create a temperature check station to protect the public and county employees.  The east entry point to the new Justice Center on the Election Commission side will serve as the single entry point.  Parking by the Sheriff Department will require a walk around to the other side, so park on the east side if possible.

Personal medical guidance remains:

If you would normally see your doctor for the level of discomfort you are experiencing, then call and coordinate to see your primary care provider.

Cough, fever and shortness of breath are being screened and tested first for strep and seasonal flu.  If those tests are negative, then patients are processed for Corona virus testing, which is available through your primary care provider or Health Department.  Read more at: https://www.tn.gov/health/cedep/ncov.html

The economic slowdown has resulted in some layoffs.  The Tennessee Department of Labor is expanding the state call center staff to accommodate calls and on-line applications.  Refer to the Tennessee Department of Labor website at:  https://www.tn.gov/workforce/unemployment/apply-for-benefits.html

The American Job Center at Jacksboro will be supporting applicants however, is reduced to allowing 2 applicants at a time in the building on Monday because the computer resource room will afford only two people the required six feet of separation.

Governor Lee has requested the Small Business Administration (SBA) declare an economic injury disaster loan emergency to help small businesses.  Our Chamber will be helping businesses begin that process.  More info at:   https://www.sba.gov/

Thank you for your patience, your care for your families and your concern for fellow Citizens.

  1. If they would make everyone stay at home it will help the spread of the virus 🦠 but Campbell county is business as usual….close places down so will not have anymore affected by this….

  2. Thank you for keeping us the people of Campbell County updated on this new COVID-1 VIRUS!!
