(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) — State Dennis Powers, R-Jacksboro, is the recipient of the Award for Conservative Excellence from the American Conservative Union (ACU).

This achievement honors Powers for his unwavering support of initiatives throughout the 2019 legislative session that have made crucial conservative reforms and that have enhanced Tennessee’s economic prosperity. Powers was presented the award on Saturday, Feb. 29 in Washington D.C. Powers received a 96 percent rating for his conservative record from the ACU.

“I am humbled to receive this honor from the ACU for my conservative voting record,” Powers said.

“I will keep up the fight the people of my district and for all Tennesseans who realize that conservative solutions are what have made our state a model for good governance and the envy of the entire nation.”

According to its website, the ACU believes that the Constitution of the United States is the best political charter yet created by men for governing themselves. It is the organization’s belief that the constitution is designed to guarantee the free exercise of the inherent rights of the individual through strictly limiting the power of government.

Powers represents District 36 in the Tennessee House of Representatives which is made up of Campbell, and part of Union and Anderson counties.    He serves as the Chairman of the Banking and Investments Subcommittee.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 03/06/2020-noon)
