JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – State Representative Dennis Powers would like to correct an article written from WLAF’s coverage of Tuesday’s (01/14/2020) meeting of the Campbell County Board of Education.
Jim,
I would like to correct an article on WLAF’s web site that was posted on 1-15.  The article in regards to a comment made by Dr. Timothy Rogers to the Board of Education at the meeting on Tuesday night (1-14) regarding the Bible Release Program.  Here is the quote:

Dr.. Timothy Rogers then added that his main reason for addressing the board was to thank Campbell County schools for its continuing support for the foundation’s Bible Release Program, pointing out that the program has come under attack in some areas including at the legislature.
“You have continued to support Bible Release and your State Representative (Dennis) Powers changed his “no” vote to support us,” Rogers added, urging Campbell County to continue its support.

I was never a “no” vote and actually carried the bill last year in the House of Representatives through 4 committees and onto the House Floor where it passed unanimously, 97-0.  I’m not sure why Dr. Rogers made the comment, but I did want to clarify that I not only supported the program from the very beginning, but I carried the legislation for it and continue to support it.

Thank you,
Rep. Dennis Powers, Chairman
Banking and Investments Committee

  1. Dennis is absolutely correct. I can confirm that he played a large role in getting the release time in Campbell County.
