LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF)- LaFollette Library Director Nancy Green (above) has been chosen as this year’s grand marshal for the Christmas parade.

She is “absolutely humbled” by the designation, she said. In fact, she even got ” teary eyed” when she learned she had been chosen. Green  recently celebrated her 30th year as the LaFollette Library Director on Nov. 20. Prior to becoming the library director, Green had worked as a library aid at Wynn-Habersham School under librarian Marjorie Johnson.

“She taught me about being a librarian the old way; I learned a lot from her,” Green said, adding that she had seen a lot of changes in the library world over the years. No matter the changes brought on by the digital age, her favorite part of her job has remained the same. “The people are my favorite. I get to see my patrons on a day to day basis. I get to know them; they are like family,” Green said. She said she especially loved spending time with the children who come into the library. One of her favorite programs is Lego Hour, every Wednesday at 3:30 pm. “It’s going phenomenally; I pull out a bunch of Legos and say ‘build’, the kids don’t want to stop when the hour is up.” Programs like this and others such as the Mondays are Murder Book Club are just a few of the ways Green keeps things fun and “community oriented” at the library.  Making sure the LaFollette Library maintains that “family atmosphere” is important to Green. She said she loves her job, and even after 30 years, she “still looks forward to work every single day.”

Green also sits on the Galloway Bible Camp Board of Directors, is the organist for the local chapter of the Eastern Star and the pianist for two churches. She also stays busy with her two daughters and six grandchildren, which are her “pride and joy.”  “I love to be a part of the community and do what I can to help the county,” Green said, adding that she was ” truly humbled and honored” to be chosen as the parade grand marshal.”
