Cash, drugs, drug paraphernalia and other items were recovered after a high speed chase down I-75 on Friday.

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – “His eyes got big, and he looked away,” said Caryville Police Officer Daniel Garrett.  It was that reaction from 35-year old Christopher William Strebe of Clinton that immediately captured Garrett’s attention.  Late Friday afternoon is when Garrett saw Strebe driving a black 2000 Mercedes Kompressor in Caryville going south on Old Hwy 63 while Garrett was northbound.  According to Garrett’s report, when Strebe looked at Garrett, his eyes became big, and he looked away from Garrett.  The CPD officer quickly turned around to get a better look at Strebe prompting Strebe to pick up his speed to a high rate and enter I-75 via the southbound  ramp.

Garrett details that as he followed Strebe (above), with lights and siren activated, Strebe was riding right up on other vehicles, darting in and out of traffic and even squeezed between a pick-up truck and an 18-wheeler.  All the while, Garrett notes that Strebe kept throwing his hands up in the air as if he was frustrated.

Strebe exited at Rocky Top  Exit 129 when Garrett came over his cruiser’s public address speaker and ordered Strebe to pull over.  He pulled in at the Rocky Top Shell gas station and put his hands in the air.

Two officers with Rocky Top Police along with Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputies Travis Bostic, Dakota Williams and K-9 Santo soon arrived on the scene to assist.

Discovered either on the driver or in the Mercedes or on the ground were three bags of marijuana, a bag of THC wax, digital scales and six bags of what was believed to be meth (51.5 grams).  Also located were multiple zip lock bags, a marijuana grinder, rolling papers and $464 in cash.  Garrett believes the cash is from narcotic sales.

Strebe and his passenger, 53-year old Pansy Phillips (above) of Caryville, were arrested.  Phillips refused to speak with Officer Garrett while Strebe denied knowing about the meth.

Strebe faces charges of driving on a suspended license, failure to exercise due care, felony evading arrest, possession of meth with intent to sell or deliver along with five other drug counts.  Phillips was charged with possession of meth with intent to sell or deliver.  Each is expected to be arraigned today.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/25/2019-NOON)
