LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Around a dozen members of the Campbell County Leadership class attended education day at Roane State Community College on Thursday.    The group listened to state representative Dennis Powers talk about “what the state does”, as well as several programs going on at the state level. Powers spoke about the state budget and how that operates, before focusing mostly on what the state is doing to improve the quality of education such as the free two-year college program and the TCAT program.

“Within the last two years, Tennessee has become the fastest improving state in education,” Powers said, adding that the state had gone from 45th in the nation to 34th.

“It’s not the end result yet of where we want to be, but we are moving in the right direction.”

Afterwards, the leadership class took a tour of Roane State Community College led by director Tracy Powers. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/25/2019-6AM)
