CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – The Town of Caryville will soon have an ordinance for short term rentals. The issue of short-term rentals was brought to the board’s attention in late summer.    Shortly thereafter, the town’s attorney Adam Bullock began working on drafting an ordinance to address the rentals. Last night, the town held a first reading of the ordinance, Mayor Bobby Stooksbury told the board “this is uncharted country”.  The ordinance outlines operating procedures for the short-term rentals.

Stooksbury updated the board about the progress that has been made on the Safe Routes to School.  He told the board that the lights are in and the poles are set for the school zone at Caryville Elementary. The town has applied for a grant to replace the traffic light at Hwy 116 at the Waffle House. Currently they are in the first phase of the grant.

Striping of Butter and Egg Road and Bruce Gap Road were discussed. The cost to stripe both roads will cost the town $3,857. The board was in favor of the project except for Aldermen Lloyd Lawson who voted no.

Several repairs were on the agenda last night. The first repair was to the Caryville Housing Projects sidewalks and curbs. Lloyd Lawson told the board they have several sidewalks that are cracked and have dropped down causing a possible tripping hazard. Lawson continued that some of the sidewalks could be patched, others will need to be torn out and replaced. The board approved for Lawson to get an estimated cost of the repairs. The next repair was to the town’s zero turn mower at a cost of $2,513. After some discussion, the board approved the repair.

Officer Brandon Cairns will be hired as a full-time police officer after his 90 day probation ends. Cairns started working for the town on July 25. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/13/2019-6AM)
