A working smoke detector saved a life in the wee hours of Monday morning in La Follette.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Just after 1:30 am Monday morning, a person safely escaped from his burning home in East La Follette.  Upon arrival, firefighters with the Campbell County Rural Fire Service found a working fire in the basement of the home.  The lone occupant was alerted by the alarms sounded from smoke detectors.  Crews from the CCRFS and the La Follette Fire Department were able to contain the fire to the basement and then later clearing the scene at 3:30 am this morming.

CCRFS Assistant Chief Daniel Lawson said, “This is another example of why it is key to have working smoke detectors in your home.”  Lawson said the fire service will come to your home, bring you a smoke detector and install it for free.  The number to call is 423. 563.9983.
