Fields of Faith is where students invite, pray for, share with, and challenge their peers to read the Bible and follow Jesus Christ.   WATCH here.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – “This wind is making my bald head cold,” said Chris Walker.  The former Vol football player, who grew up in inner city Memphis, connected instantly with his audience of young and old at Wednesday night’s 9th annual Fields of Faith at Campbell County High School.

Football allowed Walker to “make it out” as he described, and once he arrived on the campus of the University of Tennessee, the campus director of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), James Mitchell, helped lead him to Christ in 2008.  Walker is now that FCA campus director at the University of Tennessee.  He is also the chaplin for the Vol football and basketball teams.

The sound check took place long before the 6:30 pm start of Wednesday night’s Fields of Faith.

Walker’s path to his current position had some detours.  After UT, he was cut from from the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens team and accepted the FCA position at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.  He told last night’s audience  he didn’t even know how to spell Chattanooga prior to reluctantly accepting the position.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/17/2019-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF ALAYNAH CARNEY and WLAF’S MATTHEW MOORE)
