JELLICO, TN (WLAF) – A young Campbell County man died from injuries sustained in an ATV accident on Friday night, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.Officials said, “Sixteen year old Fisher Wayne Barton of the Highcliff Community of Jellico died as the result of an ATV wreck.”  It was reported that the Whitley County High School junior was with friends “four wheeling” on Pine Mountain late Friday night when the accident happened.

THP Trooper Conner Bell details in his report that the driver of an ATV, Fisher Barton, was attempting to go up a steep embankment on Pine Mountain Road with a passenger on the back.  Upon going up the embankment, the ATV flipped backwards throwing both off of the vehicle.  Barton struck his head on the ground and the ATV rolled on top of him fatally injuring him.  The passenger was taken to the Jellico Hospital suffering minor injuries.  Neither Barton or his passenger was wearing helmets.

Barton worked part-time at Cox and Son Funeral  Home in Jellico.  “He was so precious.  Just a fine  young man.  Losing him is the hardest thing we’ve had to deal with here,” said Wilma Cox.

Barton is the son of Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Wayne Barton.
