JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Last Friday’s exhilarating final play of the game win over Carter was ancient history in the Cougar Camp come Monday.  “We enjoyed that win, but in this business, you’ve gotta put ’em away and focus on the next game.  Our focus has all been on Oak Ridge since Monday,” said Campbell Defensive Coordinator Matt Price. For the first time in the history of Campbell County Cougar Football, the Cougars are undefeated entering tonight’s match-up with Region 3 foe Oak Ridge while the Wildcats are 0 & 2.  However, that is nothing but history, because the opening of the region portion of the schedule begins for both teams tonight, and this is where the run to a post season berth begins.  That’s why the first two games for each team don’t really matter except in the win-loss column.

Campbell County has only started a football season 2 & 0 six times over its 45 seasons.  Five of those 2 & 0 starts have come during the Price Era.

Price calls the week a good week of practice.  He’s quick to point out that, “Oak Ridge is Oak Ridge; a team that has speed and talent. Their coach, Joe Gaddis is one of the best motivators in high school football.”  Gaddis and the Prices, Matt and Justin, each talked by telephone over the weekend.  Justin says, “that’s Coach Gaddis’s way.”  He laughed when the veteran coach asked him if he had homecoming scheduled yet, because with his slow, small team, Oak Ridge would be a good homecoming team.

“We know we have to bring our “A” game,” said Matt Price.  Our offense will take what they give us, Price points out, and we have run the ball more than we usually do during our first two games which may help us be a little more balanced.

“On the defensive side, we must stop the run and eliminate the big plays.  Oak Ridge will take its share of shots,” said Price.

Campbell has a young quarterback in Hunter White.  Price notes that OR is also breaking in a new quarterback.  “He’ll see  a lot of pressure from us,” Price said.  The Cougars goal every week is to get as many three and outs as they can with five being each game’s goal.

The 2 & 0 Cougars play their third game of the 2019 season at home against Oak Ridge on Fri., Sep. 6. Kickoff is 7:30 pm with live radio, television and internet coverage over the WLAF – B & M Tires Sports Network beginning at 7 pm.
