LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) -Local Boy Scout Troop 310 completed its requirements for the motor boating merit badge on Aug. 24.

For each merit badge, there are several steps to complete. Requirements for this badge were completed with the help of the community. TWRA’s Joe England and Vic Treadway taught a Tennessee Boaters Safety Course that helped the Scouts know how to be safe while operating a boat. Nancy Morton-Bright, with Camelot Foster Care, gave the boys CPR instructions to use in case of an emergency. Logan Hickman and his son, David, of People’s Bank of the South took the Scouts out of the water, to teach how to fuel, drive, operate and dock a pontoon boat.

Members of Boy Scout Troop 310 recently earned a motor boating merit badge. The badges were earned with the help of community members.

The Scouts began their trip at Sugar Hollow Dock and traveled to Norris Dam, each scout drove approximately one mile and participated in docking the boat. They also had to navigate and read a map of Norris Lake. Scoutmaster Chris Thacker said the highlight of the trip was seeing a Bald Eagle in flight.
Troop participants were Scoutmaster Thacker, Stuart Thacker, Elijah Lamb, Brandon Cummins, Tim Humphreys and troop vice-chair, Crystal Thacker.
The troop is extremely grateful to those who helped make this trip possible and for supporting the youth.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-08/30/2019-6AM)
