JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Campbell County Sheriff  Deputy Dakota Williams was conducting radar last Friday at the 153-mile marker on I-75 when he noticed a blue SUV traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle, driven by David Edward Fluty, was clocked at 95 mph in a 65-mph zone, according to the report.

When Williams was attempting to catch the vehicle, he noticed it change lanes to the right hand lane and back to the left hand lane, crossing the fog line on the left. After traveling for a half mile with Williams following with his emergency lights on, the vehicle finally pulled to the shoulder and stopped.

Upon making contact with Fluty, Williams allegedly noticed a strong odor of alcohol. He asked Fluty if he had been drinking   and  Fluty allegedly responded  he had drank four or five beers, but he wasn’t sure, according to a report from the sheriff’s department. He also had slurred speech and couldn’t provide registration or insurance for the vehicle.

During a series of field sobriety tests, Fluty was unsteady on his feet and swaying. After the tests were completed, Fluty allegedly asked Williams to call an Uber for him or just charge him with public intoxication. When Fluty was asked if he knew where he was, he said he did and that he was on the interstate. He continued that he was coming back from Rocky Top, which was four exits north of the stop location. Fluty allegedly told Williams  he didn’t need another driving under the influence charge, because he had two prior DUIs in Texas.

After being arrested, Williams attempted to read Fluty the implied consent but he kept interrupting him and allegedly said he was not going to listen. He then said “I’m not signing s*** or blowing in anything.”

Fluty, 45, 7048 Allyn Drive, Azel, Texas, is charged with reckless driving, speeding, violation of TN financial law, violation implied consent law, violation registration law, failure to maintain lane and driving under the influence (DUI).  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/08/2019-6AM)
