LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A $75,000 grant awarded to Campbell County means improvements at the Lonas Young Park.

The money will go towards installing a septic system at the yet to be developed campground, according to county commissioner Rusty Orick.

“This will make the park self-sufficient,” he said.

The current plan is to take the six acres on the left of High Knob Road and develop a camp ground. While the county has been putting money aside for the project, the grant will be added to those funds, according to Orick. The county is in the process of clearing the land for the camp sites. “We are hoping to build 15 sites,” Orick said.

County officials have been pleased with the use of the park. “It is doing real good,” Orick said of the multipurpose park. From the athletic fields to the boat ramp and beach, the park is being used on a consistent basis. Along with adding the campground, the county has exercise equipment that was also purchased with a grant that will be installed soon. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/05/2019-6AM)
