LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The late Paul Fields was a dreamer.  Just look around.  On the third anniversary of Fields death, it was announced today that Governor Bill Lee will visit one of Fields dream lands, McCloud Mountain.  One week from today the governor, welcomed by State Representative Dennis Powers and his wife Tracy, will host an open to the public visit Wednesday, July 10, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at McCloud Mountain Restaurant.  THIS IS AN UPDATED TIME.

Fields was a developer, an innovator, who perhaps is best remembered for creating the Deerfield and McCloud Mountain communities.  It was said by Betty Snodderly at his celebration of life that there are three difference makers for Campbell County; Norris Lake, I-75 and Paul Fields.

Maybe one day local leaders, who recognize Fields county changing contributions, will honor him in a special way to make sure Paul will forever be remembered.  If so, that would be a fitting and deserving tribute to the dreamer.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/03/2019-6AM)

  1. If any body deserved to be recognized by this county it would be Paul Fields. Just because he wasn’t a politician does not mean he shouldn’t be recognized. He has done more for this county than all of them put together. Never tooted his own horn. He had a dream and proceeded to do what he had to do to make it come true. He raised two exceptional children and his grandchildren are an example for all teens to follow. This county has prospered 10 times over because of his dream.

  2. Paul Fields made it possible for many to advance in Campbell County. He made it possible for me to buy and run a vacation rental program that employed hundreds over the years. He taught me that a handshake was the same as giving you his word. I get a beautiful view everyday of Norris Lake that was made possible because of his dream. Thanks Paul and Madeline Fields for dreaming!

  3. I agree that Paul Fields should be specially remembered by Campbell County for all he did for the area. I became friends with Paul as a result of having a lake property at Deerfield for a few years. I always spent some time with him when I was back in TN. He referred to me as “his Texas lawyer”. My wife is Dottie Broyles and her mom is Helen Broyles, so many of you know them. He was very proud of his development of Deerfield which has turned out to be one of a kind. Paul especially loved McCloud Mountain. I often met him there because that is where he loved to spend his time. I can still hear him say: “I am up on The Mountain, come up and see me”. Paul could have lived most anywhere in his life, but he chose Campbell County. I am sure that I was not the only one he told how much he loved Campbell County and loved living there. Rest in peace, old friend.
